Last Day of Elementary School - A Dedication Post

Today is my last day ever of elementary school, and I admit it, I cried. I couldn't help it! They were playing graduation music and everything!

This post is dedicated to all the amazing teachers I had at Chatham Park and here are some of things that I will remember most about each and everyone of you:

1st Grade: Mrs. Dienno
Thanks for your always-cheerful attitude that made everyday of first grade a blast. You always made Doggy and I feel welcome throughout our entire year together.

2nd Grade: Mrs. Loveland and Ms. Morret
You both always pushed me to do my best by giving me extra work when I got bored in class. Ms. Morret- you always took notice of Doggy and made her feel like a student too. I am glad we still stay in touch even though you are no longer at Chatham. BTW, Doggy will be going to middle school with me next year, even if she has to hang out in my locker all day.

3rd Grade: Mr. Casey (L.A.) and Mr. Sherbinko (see 5th grade)
Mr. Casey- You were a great L.A. teacher that made learning fun with your great sense of humor and silly stories. Sometimes your stories even used up at least 15 minutes of class time! J

4th Grade- Ms. Barcalow and Ms. Divelario
Ms. Barcalow- I love how you are a total Harry Potter fan and all the cool writing exercises you did with us. I was so sad last year when I heard that you were leaving to go teach 6th grade at the middle school, but maybe now I’ll get you as a teacher!

Ms. D, you are not only a great math teacher but I always loved your no nonsense attitude. You didn’t take funny business  from anybody, and your sassy comebacks earned the catchphrase: “You just got Ms. D’ed!”

5th Grade: Ms. Grant and Mr. Sherbinko
Ms. Grant (a.k.a. Mrs. Schaefer now), thank you for all of those enrichment packets you gave me, making math more interesting! I remember how happy I was that one time when you let me "teach" the kids at the front table.

Mr. Sherbinko, I was lucky enough to have you as my homeroom and math teacher in 3rd grade and again in 5th grade for L.A. This year in L.A., you made me think harder than I thought was possible. You asked questions that made me use 117% of my brain, even though that's not even mathematically possible! You always encouraged me to write more and share my stories on my blog.

Gifted Teacher: Mrs. O’Brien
Mrs. O’Brien, I loved Seminar! You always gave us puzzles like Brain Boosters that challenged me and made me think. I love the feeling of figuring out a problem that I've been stuck on for a while.

Music Teacher: Mr. Peters
Mr. Peters- I can’t believe you’re retiring this year. You have made music class at Chatham Park absolutely wonderful.  I love how silly you are and your passion for music made me look forward to your class every day of the week. I remember how ecstatic I was when I made the cut for body percussion for the spring concert. It was all thanks to you! Those extra 20 minutes really helped!

Art Teacher: Mrs. Cohan
Mrs. Cohan, you always work so extremely hard! There are always like 10 kids asking you questions and you have so much to do when it comes time for art shows! Even with all this stuff keeping you busy, you always manage to keep your cool and you are a great art teacher!

Gym: Mr. Schaefer
You are a great gym teacher and I always liked the games you created for us like The Minion game at Field Day. You made gym fun even though I couldn't shoot a basketball to save my life. I will never forget today's gym class when we did Mr. Schaefer (and the boys) vs. Mrs. Schaefer (and the girls).  I’m glad you found someone as great as Ms. Grant and I hope you guys have a great honeymoon!

Principal: Ms. Christianson
Ms. Christianson, you truly are a princiPAL! You not only came to all of the in-school activities, but you came to events outside of school hours too, such as the school talent show, the district track meet, etc. I remember at the Maniac Magee Run, after I crossed the finish line, I walked around to cheer for the incoming runners when someone behind me said "Great job!" I turned around and realized it was you! You are very involved in our school, and make all the students feel welcome. You even listened to our suggestions and helped found the Bulldog Ambassador program which I am proud to be a part of. I will always remember you as the new principal who contributed so much to our school in one short year!

Every single one of you rock and I will never forget you! Thanks for 5 wonderful, memorable years at Chatham and have a safe and happy summer!

  1. Hey CC, its Leanne not sure if you remember. Its been a while, a few years actually, but its awesome to see you growing up so well. I'm actually graduating high school in a few days so we're kinda in the same boat. I remember middle school being different, but you get to meet tons more people and try out all kinds of classes. Hope you like it and I'll try to stay in touch more :D

  3. I think you have made your teachers' day with this wonderful post! It is so lovely to have students show their appreciation of their teachers. I love the specific examples you give versus just a generic "They are great." Teachers' jobs can be tough but I bet you are one of the students that made their job easier and more fulfilling! Awesome post!
