Holy Cow!

I just got a huge order for CC's Original Greeting Card Designs from my good friend, Colleen's mom! The order is for 24 Christmas cards, 12 Thank You cards, and 12 Happy Birthday cards.
Thank you Ms. Wendy for supporting my College/Puppy Fund!  That's right, now that I have a bike, I am saving up for a puppy.  Since my parents won't get me one, I am going to get one myself. I don't care if it takes a million years.

Happy Halloween, Hurricane Sandy's Horse!

Part 1: Hurricane Sandy

During Sandy,
I had a lot of free time, since school was closed Monday & Tuesday :)! I mostly watched Disney on my ipad, and helped Daddy rake leaves, and cleaned my room. I also set up a nice little "shelter" under the dining room table (includes a movie theater) so my mom, my dad, and I slept there last night. Well actually, my dad didn't really sleep there all night. He woke up at 4 in the morning and went to bed upstairs. Mommy said we lost power for a few hours late last night but it didn't affect me because I was sound asleep. I hope everyone is safe and sound!

Part 2: A Horse

I drew this horse just before the hurricane for a school project. Hope you like it!

Part 3: Happy Halloween!
Enjoy your trick- or- treating!
P.S. Can anybody guess what I'm being for Halloween? If you want to, please post a comment and guess!

MANGA

Today in art class, we did "manga" cartoons. According to About.com, "manga" is

Definition
Manga are Japanese comic books. Manga is often made into Japanese cartoons, or Anime. The art in Manga has a very definite look to it and is often referred to as “Manga Style.”

Pronunciation:
(Maw – Nnnnn – Gah) In Japanese, it is actually three syllables, although the middle "N" is spoken very quick. Americans have a habit of pronouncing it "Man-Gah", but that is not actually correct.

Do you like my manga?

A Must Read, Perfect for Election Time!

This book is a must read, starring 13-year old Judson Moon, the kid who became president! It's also the perfect book since the presidential election is coming up on November 6, 2012. Here's a sneak peek at this hilarious novel:

My fellow Americans,
When I was running for president, I said you should vote for me because I didn't know anything about politics, and how to raise taxes...or how to ruin the economy. I didn't know how to get us into a war. I said you should vote for me because I didn't know anything.
Well that was two months ago, and I'm very proud to say that... I still don't know anything.
The twentieth century is over; the twenty-first has begun. We've got a lot of work to do. So, America, ARE YOU READY TO RUMMMBLE???

I recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind getting "tricked" into learning while they are reading. You can also get the first book in this two-book series: The Kid Who Ran For President.

District Chorus

This Wednesday,  I'm going to try out for district chorus! The test is you have to sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" up to a certain line, then you have to sing some patterns. It will be hard to get in, because there are so many people trying out, so wish me luck! I will tell you how I do when the results are posted.

My Camping Trip

Last Thursday, we went camping at Hickory Run State Park. It was a lot of fun! On the first day, We just set up the tent, ate lunch, then relaxed for the rest of the day. For dinner, we had fire-grilled pepperoni pizzas and after that we had smores! On day 2, we went to a biking trail but we didn't go very far because Daddy had a flat tire. :(  Daddy walked back to the car to try to fix it but Mommy and I kept biking. We only went 8 miles, because there wasn't any cell phone signal and we didn't want daddy to worry about us.

Since our bike ride was so short, we decided to go on a hike. After the hike, we walked to my Uncle Vin's campsite. He was camping with his friends at a campsite not too far from us. What a coincidence! When we got back, my parents' college friends had arrived! We helped them unpack and set up the tent, then we settled down for dinner. We had rib eye and NY strip steaks and potatoes for dinner and then smores again. On day 3, we went hiking across the Boulder Field. The Boulder Field is a big field filled with boulders. After that, we went to Sandy Lake Beach. At the beach, Aidan (my camping buddy) and I made sand castles while our moms and dads relaxed on the beach. Later, we did some fishing on the other side of the lake. That was my first fishing trip! I caught 7 fish! 5 sunfish and 2 trouts! Aiden caught 3! A trout and 2 sunfish! Then we went back to the campsite and had grilled chicken and of course smores again. Then we played games for candy all night long! :) On the last day, we had to wake up early because I had to go to a lasertag party! This was the best camping trip ever!

Answer to Brainteaser of the Week (August 7, 2012)

Take the first 2 odd numbers, 1 & 3, when you add them up, you get 4. Take the first 3 odd numbers, 1, 3, and 5 when you add them up, you get 9.  Now, take the first 5 odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 when you add them together you get 25. Do you see a pattern?

In the brainteaser, Carmen was able to find the sum of the first 50 odd numbers very quickly, her answer was 2500. She did the same for 75 to get 5,625.  Do you see the pattern yet?

The pattern is: Instead of adding every single number by hand, you can just square the number of odd numbers (square a number means you multiply a number by itself).  For example, the sum of 3 odd numbers = 3 square = 3x3=9; the sum of 5 numbers = 5 square = 5x5= 25.  That's why Carmen was able to figure out a number as large as the sum of 75. It's just 75 square which is 75x75 = 5,625.

Brainteaser of the Week

Ms. Kat asked the class to see if they could find the sum of the first 50 odd numbers. As everyone settled down to their addition, Carmen  ran to her and said, "The sum is 2,500." Ms. Kat thought, "Lucky guess," and gave her the task of finding the sum of the first 75 odd numbers. Within 20 seconds, Carmen was back with the correct answer of 5,625.

How does Carmen find the sum so quickly?

Hint: Consecutive odd numbers are 1, 3, 5, 7....
Start with the first several odd numbers and look for a pattern.

Answer will be posted next week.

Titanic on French Horn

The Titanic theme song is one of the songs that I am working on. I think I still need more practice.

Happy Birthday Coach Tara!

Today is Coach Tara's birthday.  The whole team celebrated her birthday with cupcakes and singing Happy Birthday to her before practice this morning. Our team mascot is a dolphin.  So, I painted this picture on canvas and I made a video of me playing the French Horn for her.

Spectacular Sunday

This Sunday, I did a kiddie triathlon. It was a lot of fun! A triathlon is when you swim, bike, and run all in one race.  We had to swim 4 laps, bike a mile, and run half a mile. At the end when they announced the winners, I was so sad when they announced 3rd place, then 2nd place for the 9-10 year old girls and I wasn't one of them, because I was pretty sure that I didn't get first. But then the announcer said, "And 1st prize goes to.......... CC (she didn't actually say CC, she said my real name) !" I was so excited! My prize was a GIANT yellow frisbee and a really cool bright red pedometer! A reporter even interviewed me and took my picture for the paper! I can't wait to do this again next year!

Funday Monday

Since we did so good at our last meet against the Knowlton Swim Team, Coach Tara let us have a Funday Monday at practice today! We have had a lot of fundays in the past, but today was the best! A funday is when all we do are games or fun stuff at practice. Today, we did "snakes." Snakes are when you swim a lap of something, then go under the lane rope and
swim something back in the next lane. Then you go under the next rope and repeat. The things we swim in snakes are usually really fun things like doggy paddle, dolphin dives, and Tarzan. We even danced across the pool for one of the laps. We also got to get on the waterslide and jumped off the diving board which we never get to do at regular practice. At the very end, we did a 300 (12 laps) medley relay. My lane got second.
Thank you coaches for such an awesome practice!

Delicious Rollerblading

Yesterday, my mom and I went roller blading! It was a lot of fun! I can go pretty fast but I still have trouble stopping. As we were rolling by, I saw some ladies picking raspberries from a nearby bush. Soon after that, my dad came to meet us on his bike. We both love raspberries so we decided to pick some. Well, my dad didn't do any of the picking. It was just my mom and me getting pricked by the sharp thorns on the bush. We managed to get a lot of raspberries even without my dads help (see below). I can't wait to go rollerblading again!

French Horn Lessons

Last week, I started French Horn lessons! It is a lot of fun! The French Horn is a pretty hard instrument but I like that because it gives me a goal to do better. What I don't like is how heavy it is! I'm glad that mommy carries it for me! Doggy would me great at French Horn, if she could only open her mouth!
My teacher, Mr. Fein is also very nice! He is fun and encouraging and an awesome musician. Check him out on the sax at: http://www.feinmusic.com/michaelfein/Movies.html
I also learned how to play a couple songs such as: Hot Cross Buns, Down by the Station, part of Titanic, and a couple more! I can't wait for my next lesson!

A Special Request

KT asked me to draw a picture that she could donate for a block party raffle (see insert below). All the money from the raffle will be used to build a playground for kids with special needs. My picture kind of goes along with that theme and it looks really nice framed. KT liked it so much, she paid me $25! Thank you KT!!!!!
If anyone else is interested in getting a custom order piece of artwork, please email me or post a comment here.
Happy first day of summer!
"The block party is held in conjunction with Souderton125 parade and celebration and is one of our largest fundraisers to help re-build our local playground at the corner of Chestnut & Wile. The playground will be for ALL to enjoy including those with special needs."
