It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas :) - Updated 2/7/14

Lately, I've been busy making Christmas stockings and gifts.
  • I made myself a minion stocking, because I am getting too old for Dora, and Minions ROCK!
  • I also made my baby cousin Josh a cute dinosaur stocking with a funny tail!
  • Last but not least, I made our family friend, Auntie Karen, an owl apron. After she saw the one I made for my friend's birthday, she liked it so much that she offered to buy one. I decided to make her one as a Christmas gift instead. I can't post a picture (will update after Christmas), because I want Auntie Karen to be surprised when she gets it in the mail.
  • Here's the apron I made for Auntie Karen. Yay, I am glad she likes it.

The light blue poke dot owl on the bottom left is also a pocket.
Somehow, mommy and I were able to find time to go sledding on snow day. I love snow day! Poor BOB had to work. This is a funny video of me "snowboarding". Don't forget to look for the dramatic wipe out at the end.

I hope everybody has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Autumn Colors

I just finished this painting last week. It took about 5 hours to complete. It is done using chalk pastel, but it's still considered to be a form of painting. I can't believe it is already sold. I think the buyer wants it for a Christmas present.

Owl Apron

I recently made this apron for my best friend, Carmen C. She really likes owls, and I wanted to get her something special for her birthday , so I made her this.

First, I designed the owls on paper. Then, I cut them out, and traced them onto the fabric. Then, my mom helped me cut the fabric pieces for the owls. After that, I bought a blank apron from Joanne's Fabric Store, and glued/stitched the owls on. Thank you Auntie KT for giving me the fabric to make the cute little owls!

Please tell me what you think by posting a comment or check one of the "Reactions" boxes below.

Disney Fund

My Mommy and Daddy are thinking of taking me to Disney World/Disneyland this year! Since going there is a very expensive trip, I decided to put my "puppy fund" on hold, and start a "disney vacation fund". My goal is to save at least $200, and I am going to use some of my "fun fund" to help reach my goal. Now, 50% of all my cards and artwork will go to my "Disney Vacation Fund".

Snakes Come In Threes

We saw 3 snakes in one week!!!!!!

Snake 1: We saw the first snake in our basement. My dad screamed so loud, I thought he was hurt! This snake is a garter snake, so it isn't poisonous. He is only about 15 inches long, so I kept him as a pet, and named him Freddy.
Freddy snuggling in his new home, upper right corner.

Snake 2: We saw the second snake on a bike ride near where we were river tubing & camping (Hickory Run State Park) over the weekend. I think this snake is called a black rat snake. This snake is about 4 feet long, and completely black. See video below.

Snake 3: The third snake was a rattlesnake, that
was also on the same bike ride. he was about 3 feet long, and if you listen closely, you can hear it shaking his rattle at us in the video below.

A Family Record!!!!!!!!

Over the weekend, my family and I did the Lancaster Covered Bridge Metric Century bike ride like we do every year. This is our fourth year doing this ride. We have been doing it since I was 7. But this is the first time we did the 100K course (you have the option to do 25K, 50K or 100K). We went one day early and stayed at a hotel, so we could enjoy the sights of Lancaster and go shopping at Rockvale Outlets. We had a delicious Linner at Jenny's Diner in Ronks, PA. They have pancakes the size of a pizza, and amazing mashed potatoes!
Our wet, mud and poop covered jerseys after the ride.

The next day, we had to wake up super early (5:30 AM) and go straight to the ride. We had to bike in some really bad conditions, including rain, puddles, a lot of horse poop, and the horrible smell of a lot of horse poop. It was also pretty hilly. I feel bad for mommy who was riding behind me. Because it rained really hard at times, and every time I rode over the poop (because there was no where else to ride.) The rain mixed with poop would splatter mommy right in the face. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there is horse poop every where because we were riding in Amish country and they use horse-drawn buggies for transportation. Did I mention that it was pretty hilly? They call it "rolling" terrain.

When we made it to the lunch stop half way through, we were cold and wet, but the Subway hoagies and cookies were delicious. After lunch, we headed out right away and finished the entire metric century (65 miles) with a total moving time of 5hrs and 20min.

I was so happy when we finished and there was ice-cream at the end. Yum! Mommy & Daddy were really proud because I was probably the only kid who did a 100 km.

After the ride, I decided to make a bucker list, add "Do a metric century bike ride" to the list, than check it off. You can see my new "Bucket List" page at

Saturday Surprise

This past Saturday, our team had our championship meet. Less than half the swimmers on the team are chosen to be in champs, so I'm lucky to even be in this meet! At the break, my swim team received a trophy for being the B division champs (We won all 4 of our swim meets). I did pretty well, but I didn't make it to the Meet of Champs:( The Meet of Champs is a meet that you can only go to if you get 1st or 2nd in your event. I did get 3rd twice though (So close! :(  ). Congrats to everybody on my swim team who made it to Meet of Champs!

After the meet, Mommy and Daddy surprised me by taking me to Piercing Pagoda to get my ears pierced. They said it was for having such an awesome swim season. Actually, it wasn't much of a surprise, because Daddy couldn't keep a secret while we were in the car, so I suspected something for a while. I would definitely recommend Piercing Pagoda. They are clean, and the people there are very nice. I ended up getting the wrong earrings, because a box was labeled wrong, but that's ok, because I kind of like this color better.

Thank you coaches for a great season, and thank you Mommy and Daddy for taking me to meets, practices, and letting me get my ears pierced!

Triathlons, Minions & Crab Fries

Yesterday, I did the Karakung Mini Triathlon, and I actually got third place! I am surprised about this, because at this triathlon there is an age up rule. The age up rule is a bad thing for kids like me who have a late birthday, because if you don't make the December 31st cutoff, you are considered one year older than you really are. For example, I was competing against 11 & 12 yr. olds. Even though I am only 10, I am considered 11 at the time of the triathlon. So I didn't think I had a chance against those 12 year olds who are like at least 6" taller than me. But I was super happy when they announced my name as the 3rd place winner in the 12 & Under category. My prize was a $5 gift card to Wawa. I also got a medal.

After the triathlon, my dad and I went out to celebrate. We went to see Despicable Me2. It was TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! I think the second one is even better than the first one. After the movies, we went to Chickies and Petes for Linner. I tried their crab fries for the first time ever, and they were delicious! Thank you Daddy for the best father/daughter day ever!

Doggy sure loves hot buffalo wings!

We are The Champions of the World! ( Or Maybe Just for Swimming)

This swim season, my swim team is the Division B Champ! We won all of are swim meets, so my team is undefeated! Saturday was our last meet, and we won by over 200 points! I also got a triple win at that meet in butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle Relay. A triple win is when you get 3 first places at one meet, and get your name in the newspaper. Next week, we have our championship meet, so wish me luck please!

An Original Pourquoi Tale by Active Girl

A pourquoi tale is a story "that explains something in nature and how that came to be!" Below is one that I wrote. Hope you like it!

Why Cacti Have Needles
Centuries ago, at the beginning of all creation, the desert was a big and crowded place. Birds flew through the treetops while chirping songs happily, and rivers danced through the land. All were happy except for the cactus.
“I am feeling so depressed,” Cactus told Mouse one day. “But why, Cactus? You have such beautiful smooth skin!” Mouse squeaked.
“I know,” Cactus said, “but so many animals love my skin so much, that they sit on me! That is very uncomfortable!”
“I never thought about it like that,” Mouse said apologetically. “I will ask the other animals to stop sitting on you.”
The next day, Mouse told all the animals that Cactus did not like getting sat on. The animals tried not to, but Cactus’ smooth skin was very soothing, and they still rested on him. Soon, Cactus was very annoyed.
“It is time for desperate measures!” he exclaimed determinedly.
The next day, Cactus went to The Sewing Club. “The Sewing Club” was a group of bears that loved to sew.
When he got there, Cactus said, “Black Bear, Polar Bear, and Brown Bear, you are always losing your sewing needles, because you have nowhere to put them. I will find something for you to stick them in, so other animals don’t step on them and get hurt. Then, I will be a hero, and heroes are to be looked upon, not sat upon!”
        “Okay,” the bears said together.
Now, I must tell you that Black Bear, Polar Bear, and Brown Bear are not the brightest bears in the cave. So, when Cactus made his speech, they completely misunderstood him, and thought he wanted to be their pincushion! Later that night, when Cactus was asleep, the trio of bears walked over, and began to stick needles in him.
“Hey, my needle is stuck!” exclaimed Black Bear.
         “Mine too!” yelled Polar Bear.
          Brown Bear said, “Ditto!”
The next morning when Cactus woke up, he was very surprised.
“Ahhhhh! What has happened to my beautiful smooth skin! Now, all my friends will be afraid of me!” He sulked.
Sure enough, Cactus was right. When everybody in the desert saw him, they were terrified. The rivers packed their bags and left as quickly as they could, and the trees uprooted themselves and went as far away as possible. A stampede of animals created a storm of dust until the desert was nothing but an oversized sandbox.
“Wahhhh!” Cactus sobbed. “Now, I’m all alone.
Cactus was very sad, until he realized something.
“Hey, wait a minute.” he said, “No one is sitting on me!”
Cactus was so overjoyed by this fact that he forgot all about the sharp needles piercing his skin. Soon, he began to stand taller and straighter.
To this day, whenever you visit the desert, you will see Cactus standing proudly, with needles all over his once smooth, shiny skin.
