Day 1
As my dad got out of the car, he stepped on some kind of animal. He kicked it over to the side, so I went over to get a closer look at it. The "thing" turned out to be a groundhog skeleton! Near the skeleton was also a fox jawbone. Right away, I could tell that this was going to be a very interesting trip! The first thing we had to do was unload the car. Well my parents actually did all the work while I went to collect firewood. While I was dragging this HUGE log, a nice girl named Linzy got off her bike to help me. It turned out that Linzy was heading to the playground. After talking to her for a while, I went back to looking for firewood and spotted a long black snake! He slithered across the road and disappeared in the woods. After having lunch, Linzy showed me how to get to the lake. She caught a clam, and I found a bunch of clam shells. At night, we had grilled cornish hen for dinner. It felt great to warm my toes by the fire.
Day 2
Mommy and Daddy decided to go on a hike, so we got to see even more wilderness! There were dozens of frogs at the entrance of the trail. We walked for six miles and we even got to see the Chesapeake Bay! Mommy took forever to take pictures, It was either "someone's eyes are closed", "Doggy fell", or "I look fat", but we ended up taking the perfect picture in the end. I had this clear plastic bag with holes in it, so on the way home mommy let me catch a frog. He was so tiny and cute! I let mommy name him because she was the one who spotted him. She named him Elky because we found him at Elk Neck State Park. After the hike, Linzy and I went back to the lake. I caught 2 clams and she found a dying fish. My parents came down to see what we were doing, and found a comfy spot on the rock wall to nap. At night we had another roaring fire, and had steak for dinner.
Day 3
Mommy and Daddy wanted to introduce me to mountain biking today because they used to mountain bike all the time before I was born and they said it was so much fun! So we biked to the light house instead of drove like normal people. Most of it is actually paved roadway but there were A LOT of hills. At the end portion, where it was all mountain biking, I steered out of control on a very steep downhill and crashed right into the rocks! I was so upset that I cried. Finally, I got back on my bike and rode uphill to the light house. The light house was very old and interesting. There were cobwebs and bugs everywhere! It was also very peaceful at the top. On the way back, Daddy found a trail that went through the woods. Mommy & Daddy wanted to introduce me to mountain biking again because it didn't go so well the first time. So we biked that trail. Can you guess what I did next? Yep, I crashed again. This time it was into a tree (poor tree!). I didn't only crash again, but I also cried again! Daddy and I walked our bikes the rest of the way while mommy rode ahead. That's when Daddy realized my hands are not strong enough to squeeze the brakes hard enough to stop on a bumpy trail. After that, my parents decided that I better wait until I am older to try mountain biking again. I heard Mommy said to Daddy, "I just hope we don't have to wait too long or we will be too old to mountain bike." In the end, we ended up doing 10 miles. That's much less than I'm used to, but that was definitely the worst bike ride ever! Then, I went to the lake with Linzy again. This time my parents came with me because they enjoyed their nap last time. I found a snail, a dead baby flounder, and a clam that I thought was alive but wasn't. Linzy found a clam and a baby clam. We had grilled cornish hen again for dinner that night because it was so delicious on the first night.
We decided to go on another hike. Mommy and I brought our books. This hike was a lot shorter than the one on day 2, but I still had fun. We hiked to this bench (overlooking a pond) to read our books while daddy took a nap. I caught 2 more frogs on the way out. I named them Necky and Statey. We didn't go to the lake that day though. For dinner, we had fire-grilled panini pizza sandwiches and mommy tried making a marshmallow-chocolate-peanut-butter panini sandwich. It was delicious!
Day 5
I had to let the frogs go. We went on one more hike before we left. We started at the camp store. Before we started, we went in the camp store to look around. I got this really cool mood ring that has two dolphins on it and I put a penny in one of those penny machines that flatten it out with a picture of Elk Neck State Park on it. The hike was very short but fun. It was only 2 miles long but hilly, the Mauldin Mountain Trail. The highlight of this hike was the bald eagle that we saw flying overhead. Then it was time to go home. On the way home, we stopped at Wendy's for "linner". I got a cheeseburger kids meal.
In summary, we had perfect weather every day, clear skies and a full moon every night. We also had delicious s'mores and a toasty fire every night. We are all very grateful that I didn't break any bones on this trip, especially Mommy who thanked God at least a dozen times. It was one of the best spring break vacation ever!
When I got home, I was surprised to find a Hersheys chocolate bunny and a goody bag full of candy! Thank you Easter Bunny aka "Auntie" Katie!
Thank you Mommy and Daddy for taking me on this wonderful camping trip!

I'm glad you had fun, CC. You should post pictures where your mom looked "fat." Haha.
ReplyDeleteYou're funny Ms. Joanne!
DeleteMy mom would kill me if I did that.
What an awesome vacation! We so wished we could had joined you. It sounds like such a wonderful time. Again, CC you AMAZE me on your resilience. Getting back on the bike after a fall is so hard! I know! I crashed once on my bike too going downhill but it wasn't very steep like yours and I was 30 years old so not strong enough wasn't my excuse either. I got all scraped on my knees and elbows too. I cried too :) I still got scars from it. Again, you are a role model for us all with your great attitude!
