I submitted this poem to the Young Poets of Delaware County 2012 Poetry Contest. Unfortunately, I didn't win but I still would like to share it with my blog followers.
Teachers
Teachers are awesome,
teachers are great,
But they don’t like it when
you are late.
Teachers recommend some
really good books,
Like Peter Pan and Captain
Hook.
Sometimes they give too much
homework,
But homework keeps the mind sharp,
Even if it’s a 3-page essay
On the person who invented
the harp!
Teachers challenge us to make
us think,
But when you can’t figure it
out, that really stinks.
Teachers are awesome,
teachers are great,
They help us learn so we can
graduate.
In Gym, they teach us how to
play basketball,
But that’s hard when you are
not very tall.
In L.A., they teach us how to
read and write,
Short stories that fill our
hearts with delight.
In Music, they teach us fun
song to sing,
Like “An Austrian Who Went
Yodeling”.
In Science, they teach us
about living creatures,
And chemistry, physics, and
geological features.
Teachers are awesome,
teachers are great,
They prepare us for all the
great things that await!

ReplyDeleteKaren, "Great things as yet unknown" are in your future. You are a joy to have in class, and 3rd grade is already starting to miss you as this year starts to wind down. Thanks for the poem!
