2nd Place

Do you remember the poem contest I won in 1st grade (the poem is called Doggy)? It's the Young Poets of Delaware County Poetry Competition. I have entered nearly every year since 1st grade, but this time, I actually placed! I got second in the 6th Grade category! YAY! The contest included the entire county, and there were thousands of entries. I am delighted to be selected.

Hope you enjoy the poem below:

A Good Book

Full of
Adventure.
Mystery.
Suspense.

You bring tears to my eyes
and a smile to my face.

All at the same time.

You are a friend to snuggle up with
in a cozy little blanket.

And like a mother, you fill me with comfort.

You welcome me with open pages

when no one else will.

You draw me into the story
and help me forget my worries.

So I want to say,

thank you.

For helping me to escape the world

and pulling me into your embrace.

For filling me with emotion.

For waiting patiently on my shelf until it’s time,

to pass you on to someone else.
